Wingate was born and raised in coastal New Hampshire, where they developed a love of the arts at an early age. They began their musical career at the age of 15 in the NH based rock band, Dancing Madly Backwards. By 18, Wingate was performing with the Boston legacy outfit, The Change Up, spending the next 10 years appearing at clubs and music festivals all over New England.

In 2022, Michael relocated to the island of Key West, where they spent nearly two years honing their skills and developing a unique style before returning home to New England.

Today, Wingate performs as a member of New England jam band, The Humans Being, in addition to their constant work on a rapidly growing discography of self-produced music and art.
